Unremarkable
The heart of the whole series. From Book One. The Girl Witch
They told Troll that she could understand animals so he should not have been surprised.
But he was surprised.
Troll turned away from the moth and looked, really looked at the human girl. Up close, she was smaller than he expected. For a thing so small, she commanded a great deal of attention. It was as if every eye of every creature of the forest was on her.
What was it about her. She had a... a....
“Wh... What ARE you?”
The human girl spoke. Her voice was soft and thoughtful but deep down it demanded attention.
Troll knelt down to look her in the eye. He had to scoot back to keep from poking her in the face with his long nose. He spoke when he was settled.
“I am a troll. You can call me Troll.”
There was something about her, he wasn’t sure wh…
She spoke, stopping him in mid thought once more.
“I’ve never met a troll before. I didn’t even know trolls were real.”
Whatever thought was in his head vanished.
She reached out towards him.
He lifted his own hand.
Their fingertips touched.
It was unremarkable.
There was no spark. No magic.
It was a quiet moment.
Troll knew that he would never forget it. Though he could not feel it, he knew that a connection had been made.

The best connections often start quietly, don't they? Love the image too!
Those are some very good words about interesting things.
